I had the pleasure of attending the WTA (Women's Tennis Association) finals on two occasions last week. It was held in the Indoor Stadium and many top women tennis players were scheduled to compete
As we took our seats it felt a little like we were waiting for a rock concert to begin; lights flashed and swirled and music by the in house DJ blared out
The first singles match was between Lucie Safarova...
and Gabine Murguruza
followed by the match between Angelique Kerber ...
playing against Petra Kivitova.
In spite of the lure of seeing top international women tennis players only about half of the stadium's seats seemed to have been filled, which was a shame but this did however mean there was no queue at the ladies!
Three days later I returned and was thrilled to see that the first game was a 'friendly' between Marion Bartoli and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicaro v Tracy Austin and Martina Navratilova, all legends

The main event of the evening was the following match between Flavia Pennetta...
and Maria Sharapova, and this time most of the stadiums seats were full and everyone's cameras were pointing at Sharapova.
Sharapova and Pennetta both played with huge power and intense concentration but Sharapova was definitely the stronger player and beat Pennetta.
Out of interest-Sharapova was beaten the next day by Petra Kivitova who then lost in the final game to the tournament winner Agnieszka Radwanska
