As you know the air quality in Singapore has been terrible for a few weeks now so I have been spending much more time indoors than usually I would. This has been increasingly frustrating and with Papa T away on business for most of the last month I was getting very bored.
Last week I was asked by my friend AR if I would like to accompany her to the opening night of an artist's exhibition and with the added incentive of free flow 'fizz' I was delighted to accept.
The artist had created a series of works using rice paper and acrylic. The rice paper had been cut into petal shapes, painted and stuck onto the canvas in such a way as too mimic rose and lotus flowers.
At first our uneducated eyes failed to let us appreciate the art works as they all appeared to be just large canvases in great blocks of colour
but as we walked around we started to realise that the colours in the picture changed depending on where you viewed from
This is the same canvas viewed from different angles
I had an interesting chat with the artist, who had been born in China but moved to Holland many years ago to pursue his interest in contemporary art.
AR and I left the exhibition suitable impressed with the art work and much more appreciative of the time, effort and creativity that the artist had employed, I think I felt a little more educated too
